Volunteer Spotlight

Reid Hansen

What’s kept you coming back all these years?

I enjoy getting out of the house and helping the community. I am one of the few volunteers who remembers the island from a different time. Getting to meet all kinds of people has also kept me coming back.

What is your favorite Bainbridge Island story? Why?

The Mosquito Fleet boats and the various problems that were associated with it. My dad and his sister were on one of the boats in 1917 when he was going to Queen Ann High School. It sunk and they had to swim to a raft!

What is your favorite moment with a visitor?

Most of my days have been made by coming in. Once a couple came in from somewhere back East and they were interested in the model of the fishing boat because he was a model boat collector. We talked a lot and even took a photo together!
