What is your favorite moment with a visitor?

During the summer of 2019, Toni Wood, the mother of Andrew Wood, came into our Museum. Andy was the lead singer in two of the rock bands featured in the Fearless Music exhibit. Toni just heard that her son’s photo was on our wall. She was very pleased to see Andy’s place in the exhibit featuring his band Malfunkshun.

What is your favorite moment with a visitor?

The young great nephew of Ichiro Nagatani (whose name appears on luggage tag #001) was visiting from California. He spent a long time looking at the exhibit, and then in the Library where I helped him find details of the Nagatani family’s time on Bainbridge. As he left he told me that he’d learned more of his family history in that visit to BIHM than in all his previous life.

What is your favorite object or photo in the Museum? Why?

With my forestry background, I always liked the photos of the old growth Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedars. It is fun to talk about how the island was once populated with trees that size.
